LIHome411.com trip continues New Orleans...

LIHome411.com continues working with pnola.org... it is now late thursday evening and we will be here through Saturday... Things are going really well... Bob and Tom worked on tiling a floor today- for a homeowner who had a general contractor skip town on her... If you use LIHome411.com contractors that would never be the case but in New Orleans it happens quite often. Cindy continued working for Ms Betty today- where she continues to paint trim....

PNOLA.org has been great and there volunteers have been a blast to hangout with...

more blogging on friday and saturday as we are beat....

LIHome411.com helping PNOLA.org

Day 1 and 2 in New Orleans has been very rewarding fixing Ms Betty's home... As most have seen, LIHome411.com was covered in Newsday on Tuesday morning... Although Ms Betty is almost in her home- there are still so many homes that need to be fixed up...

A few thoughts from PNOLA volunteers..

Shane- Dethan, AL- Shane came down to help PHoenix of New Orleans in June, he had planned to stay 2 weeks and is now going on his 4th month and plans to stay until the rebuilding is done... Shane heads the landscape crew for PNOLA, cutting 4-5 lawns a day and keep residents properties (both occupied & unoccupied) looking good...

Wynn- Birhingham, AL- Wynn has been here since October, and plans to stay indefinitely... Wynn supports the office staff as well as the resident counselor for the short term volunteer housing... When has helped over 80 short term volunteers through their stay at the PNOLA.org short term house...

Bob, Tom and Cindy have been focused on getting Ms Betty into her home by next week and although we leave on Saturday- she should be very close... Tomorrow- Bob and Tom are likely to be working on a demoliition project.

LIHome411.com is in New Orleans!!!

A mere 26 truck hours (with weigh stations and stops) and we're IN New Orleans!!! Tom and Cindy left Friday morning with a 16' rental truck, nearly full with donated furniture, clothing and household goods from all of our great friends and Long Island contractors! We went through New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi & Louisiana. None of you will be surprised that it took longer to get through NY (the Cross Bronx strikes again) & NJ than to drive the entire state of Tennessee.

Arrived at 9:30 at Phoenix of New Orleans (PNOLA's) volunteer house- and were met by Rachael, an Americorps volunteer who works with PNOLA. Bobby arrived at 11.

Rachael took us on a tour through the lower Ninth Ward- homes devasted everywhere by Hurricane Katrina and the flooding that followed. Yes, it was 2 years ago this Wednesday.

We will be working at Ms Betty's house this week and will be doing roofing at Emanuel's house if and when the rain holds off....more to come and we will be posting lots of pictures. Stay tuned.

LIHome411.com in the news....

Earlier this week, the Long Island Business News (LIBN) picked us up on their blog for our efforts in New Orleans.

Here is the link: http://libizblog.wordpress.com/2007/08/20/builder-has-new-orleans-in-its-heart/

Here is the article:

Long Island contractor provider LIHome411.com wants people to remember that although the damage Hurricane Katrina wrought on New Orleans took place two years ago, there is still much work to be done to restore the Big Easy.

To do that, the company is trying to raise $1 million which it will donate to The Phoenix of New Orleans, a not-for-profit neighborhood recovery association.

Also, Bobby Roddini and the other partners in the company will visit New Orleans the last week of August to help rebuild damaged or destroyed homes.

The company is also asking Long Island businesses to support the rebuilding effort by donating.

From the company’s statement:

LIHome411.com’s goal for this partnership is to raise $1,000,000 for PNOLA and New Orleans. This equates to just over $1.00 from each of the 921,000 households that the U.S. Census counts on Long Island. Cash donations can be made via check made out to PNOLA and sent in care of LIHome411.com at 43 Libby Avenue, Hicksville, NY 11801. Donations via credit card can be made online at www.lihome411.com (please click through our link to PNOLA’s site). Donations of building materials and of new and used tools are welcome; please email pnola@lihome411.com or call 516-558-0760 to coordinate these donations. A list of other items accepted for donation will be displayed at www.lihome411.com. All donations on behalf of PNOLA are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
